chchumourous Fun and practical indeed. 69 said humourous. Fun and practical indeed. More fun than informational I bought this book because its a relatively new entry in the "PhD survival" genre. The chapters are very small, sometimes less than a page, and largely anecdotal in nature. The author has a good sense of humor, but tends to sacrifice advice for anecdote. The advice is largely stock advice like being nice to secretaries and not "curl[ing] up in the foetal position" during your defense. The only. No matter who you are - Potential Grad Student, Grad Student, supporter, spouse - you must get this book to help you plan and/or cope. Mr. Dolin has been through it all and has made it to the other side to tell us that we're going to make it.
