DESCRIPTION:
"(Perhaps it might explain something to know our favorite magazine was Mad Mag)" according to Kathleen Spellman. I have been enamored of Beyond the Fringe ever since, as a preteen, my parents got the record. My sister and I would laugh uproariously regardless of how many times we heard them. (Perhaps it might explain something to know our favorite magazine was Mad Mag). Anyway it is now a joy to have it printed out. I do miss Peter Cook's "The Great Train Robbery" (No loss of train), though. S J Buck said Satire begins and peaks. Beyond the Fringe was a theatrical revue that was first performed in London in 1961 but went on to play Broadway etc.The contributers and performers were Alan Bennett, Peter Cook, Jonathan Miller and Dudley Moore. For those unfamiliar with the names they were respectively a brilliant English writer (Bennett), English comic writer and probably one of the funniest men who ever lived (Cook), Doctor, Opera director and many other things (Miller), musician and Actor (Moore). This book contains the complete scripts for th. good stuff/music i bought this book primarily for the music contained thereinthe skits were funny, albeit somewhat datedthe music was wonderfulBUT, the notation was so cramped as to make it difficult to work with & the book could not be made to lie flat without breaking the spinestill, good stuff
This complete original script of the show includes Alan Bennett's cleric, Peter Cook's miner, Dudley Moore's parody of Britten and Jonathan Miller's saga of the blue trousers. The book also contains the music of Moore's songs, the texts of a number of the sketches included in the subsequent Broadway production, an account by Roger Wilmut of the performance history of the show, and postscripts written by three of the authors 25 years after the event.. It changed the face of revue and re-established social and political satire in England as recognized and powerful weapons in the comedian's armoury. From its opening at London's Fortune Theatre in May 1961 "Beyond the Fringe" played for several years to packed houses, and later transferred to Broadway
