Interesting Essays The essays in this book are consistently interesting and thoroughly researched. The writers are some of the finest active historians of the American South. I particularly recommend Robert Paquette's article on slave drivers and Eugene Genovese's interview in Appendix A. I also liked Clyde Wilson's analysis of John C. Calhoun's economic thought. Calhoun's d. "An outstanding analysis & interpretation of Southern history" according to Midwest Book Review.
